A Belief in Action. NCJW NY is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW NY strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms. NCJW NY serves New Yorkers from all walks of life, from all racial and religious backgrounds. For 125 years, NCJW NY has been fostering women’s leadership and addressing the city’s inequities through both direct social services and advocacy for systemic change. Learn more, and join us The recent murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and Tony McDade opened wounds and reignited outrage for New Yorkers, and we stand in solidarity with Black and Brown communities in New York and across the country who are grieving. Due to COVID-19, Council House is currently closed to participants, members and volunteers with the exception of our nutrition program clients. At this time we continue to offer bagged meals and pre-packaged bags during our usual Community Kitchen and Food Pantry hours. We are committed to keeping our nutrition program open and operating safely during the COVID-19 crisis. Contribute to the Hunger Program Our Hunger Program began in 1983. What we thought would be a temporary, stop-gap measure in response to drastic cuts in federal nutrition assistance programs has become a core service here at Council House. More than one million New Yorkers experience food insecurity every day, meaning they lack the financial resources to access enough food for a healthy life. We aim to educate vulnerable communities about the dangerous and deceptive tactics of fake clinics, empowering them with information to protect themselves and their peers. We also aim to motivate advocates to take action, giving them the information, tools, and resources they need to speak out.
